Description
Mount Riley is one of the stalwarts of Marlborough consistently producing excellent wines for every occasion that won't blow your budget. New to producing Albario, their 2022 is made from grapes grown on Mount Rileys St Andrew Vineyard south of Blenheim township. The 2020 generated such excitement in the winery they decided to bottle it for the first time, and this trend has continued to date, extolling the virtues of this grape variety. Capturing the essence of the variety, peach flavors with hints of dried hay and a fresh acid thread. Delicious drinking now through 2024 with freshly caught line snapper.
Smells
lifted aromas of peach skin, fur, and all, sitting in the afternoon sun, with lemon zest, fresh basil, and sun-baked hay.
Tastes
a rich, creamy, oily palate with a crystalline acid thread that cleanses and freshens, well balanced and ultimately drinkable. Well done to the Mount Riley team for capturing true varietal characteristics and making a delicious drinking wine. And at sub $17, it is a bargain and perfect for those summer afternoons ahead.
