Description

Known to the Aussie locals as Durif, the far less euphonious name gets the boot in favour of Petite Sirah. This Caravan wine from John Quarisa is anything but petite though, an intensely fruited wine with lots of toasty oak and dark Christmas cake-like fruit. Perfect BBQ wine or for curling up next to a roaring fire when the Southerly is blowing.

Smells

Vanilla and toasty oak on the nose, with stewed rhubarb, liquorice, blackcurrant, plum duff, chocolate and Christmas cake.

Tastes

Very sweetly fruited with warming alcohol giving a sweet kick through the long, rich palate with a fine bed of grainy tannins, this is a lovely rich wine that shows incredible concentration for the money. Great buying for when you just want a big, satisfying glass of red. Drink young between now and 2024 with your favorite roasted red meats.
